Approximately 200 local Michigan small business professionals registered to attend ReferralTopia on Earth Day, April 22, 2021. The event ran from 9AM-3PM on Zoom and was followed up by an in person mixer at Ginopolis Smokehouse in Brighton, attended by approximately 50 networkers. ReferralTopia attendance was attended by approximately 50% Caerusnet Members (past, present and future). The other 50% found out about ReferralTopia due to social sharing. They worked together to plant the seeds of new referral relationships.
The line-up of live speakers at ReferralTopia was second to none. Steven Zyskowski, founder of Caerusnet and creator of ReferralTopia, kicked the day off with an inspiring presentation and gave instructions on how to based tackle the full day of networking. Doug Moffat, owner of The Moffat Group (leadership coaching and defensive insurance specialist, Caerusnet Facilitator in Brighton, Ann Arbor & Detroit), kicked the day off with an amazing presentation about Humble Inquiry. Later in the early afternoon, best selling author and entrepreneur, Lisa Mininni, presented on Human Wiring. The final presenter was best selling author, TedX speaker and Forbes contributing columnist, Stan Phelps. Stan is well known for his best selling Goldfish series of books and his presentation was about “Lagniappe” – doing the extra, little things that add up to a differentiated experience. After the full day of online networking concluded approximately 50 professionals went to Ginopolis Smokehouse in Brighton to attend the afterglow. All attendees walked away with free 20 oz Caerusnet / ReferralTopia torpedo glasses, compliments of Caerusnet and Social Good Promotions. In addition, Strawesome made awesome Caerusnet glass straws to give away as a keepsake, well.

ReferralTopia took a lot of planning to pull off. There was no format to follow, so, as usual, Caerusnet blazed a new trail. This event would not have been possible without the commitment made by the ReferralTopia planning team: Julie Palmer, JemEvents; Roger Burnett, Social Good Promotions, and Minesh Baxi. Thank you to all who attended and promoted #ReferalTopia2021. We can’t wait to do it again next year! Save the date for ReferralTopia2022: Thursday, April 21 (Earth Day Eve)!

Caerusnet founder, Steven Zyskowski was recently interview by Kris Hingst of Krommatic Marketing in Brighton on the “J K Podcast” to discuss how Caerusnet was named and the concept of farming vs hunting. Both of these short videos are worth watching!

As a Member of the Caerusnet Canton team, Evan Raoof is passionate about helping his clients train for the performance of their lives. He helps his clients
understand how to approach fitness in a way they can successfully adopt into their lives to become a meaningful part of their daily living. We had a chance to connect with Evan to learn more about him and get his take on the world of referrals!

How did you get into this field? I have always been into to exercise and truly, exercise saved my life. I was born with a type of Cerebral Palsy that impacts a portion of the right side of my body (leg and arm). When attending summer camp at age nine, I didn’t wear my brace for three months. I was faced with walking the right way or being in a wheelchair. We all have a story that allows us to be who we are. In adversity comes strength and will to create happiness.
How are you different and/or what’s your niche? I love the opportunity to help someone get healthy though fitness. My business has transformed me from being simply a personal trainer to also a lifestyle mindset coach. The truth about weight loss and your life is that it is not actually about weight loss sometimes. It is the relationship with yourself first and to others -family and friends. It’s all connected. At FitLiving Academy, I help clients achieve much more than health. I have recently started implementing weight loss and wellness programs into other health related practices and am excited to create such possibilities to impact more people. This helps be broaden the scope of referrals I can create for our clients in all aspects related to fitness, health and wellness.

Share a success story about why giving referrals/bringing visitors are beneficial to you. The mindset of giving will come back to you 10 x! It took about 8 months to become the “know, like, trust” person and to get a referral from the team – yet that referred client is still paying me monthly. Months later, a Member referred someone who had money saved in a flex spending account without and they invested that with me to start a four-month health program. I value every relationship and take a stand for my clients results Referrals make it easier.
Any tips on learning how to find situations where you can create a referral or invite a visitor? The power is in the Trust Builder Meetings with Caerusnet Members.
As I connect with people I want to help make introductions for, I invite them to visit Caerusnet, where they can meet 25-30 of my powerful referral partners.
What is your approach to positioning yourself as a resource in the community? I want to be known as a resource for all things related to fitness, health, and wellness. Caerusnet
is critical in helping get connected to the right people to help me get the word out.
Tips on how to be successful in Caerusnet? Steve Zyskowski runs a fantastic organization with a lot different teams – each with a unique culture, yet they all speak the same language. Visit each team in your area or territories and expand your network. Treat it like an interview. Because it is! Build relationships based on wanting to help others and serving your customers by being a great referral source. Plan on entertaining and educating. Each Member minute is an opportunity to educate, engage and connect with all Members of the Caerusnet team. Educate your Members in your Member Minute, Spotlight Presentation, and the important Trust Builder Meetings. Wear your sales manager’s hat and help other Members see where and when it’s the right time to refer you.

In this 4th episode of the second season of The Illuminated Conversations Podcast, coach Brian M Truskowski interviews Caerusnet founder, Steve Zyskowski. In this episode, Brian & Steve discuss his journey of transformation he undertook in 2008, when his world disintegrated, only to be rebuilt again. As an entrepreneur since the age of 22 Steven Zyskowski has a big heart for local small businesses. In 2008 he invented Caerusnet facilitated referral teams to help local small business professionals and service providers develop referral relationships within their own communities and become trusted resources. In the past he was a superhero comic book writer, has worked in banking and at one time owned his own mortgage company. No matter what he’s done professionally, Zyskowski has always been drawn to connecting people, leading teams to greatness and knowing the story behind what makes people tick.

Enjoy and learn from this insightful discussion between Caerusnet Founder, Steven Zyskowski, and the founding Members of Caerusnet Canton. Their journey to success was earned through doing the right things and having the right attitudes. This team has faced challenges that other teams may not have rebounded from. Not only did team Canton rebound from major member loss (they went from 15 Members down to 7) but today, they are a prized Caerusnet team of almost 24 Members. What did they do to break through the glass ceiling? Watch Caerusnet Canton’s Redemption to find out.
A BIG “thank you” to Members Steven Burkhalter, Stacey Jaime, Todd Barr, Wade Myers and Julie Riley for volunteering your time to share your story with the entire Caerusnet network!

On January 29th, 2021, Caerusnet Founder, Steven Zyskowski, along with participating Michigan Facilitators, welcomed and recognized the amazing efforts of the collective class of 2020 Caerusnet MVP award winners! This is a must watch for any Caerusnet Member an all passionate networkers in general, as these outstanding MVPs share their collective wisdom on how they leveled-up their referral game.
While most MVPs were able to attend the event, Roger Burnett from Social Good Promotions could not. But here’s what Roger had to say:
“Hi all! I’m participating in Leadership Livingston this year thru Cleary University and our classes are Friday’s from 8:30 to noon, so I’ll have to regretfully bow out of today’s recognition session. I’m very proud to have received this recognition and am offering here my virtual high-fives to all my fellow MVP’s! I was fortunate enough to have gotten a referral in December that led to a quick $9000 order and it appears that client is also going to give us a contract for all of their spend in our category for 2021 and beyond. The referral was the result of me being VERY specific about my ask during our member minutes and the trust I’d been able to build with Mary Beth who provided the referral. Put in the time into investing in your ask and building relationships and the sky’s the limit! I look forward to interacting more with each of you in the days and weeks ahead. Congratulations, MVP’s!”

Wendy Caverly, Caerusnet Connections, receiving the first ever “Essential AF Award” (you guess what the “AF” stands for).

Kevin McGuire, Best New Facilitator of 2020 – Livonia Caerusnet

Thank you again to all of Caerusnet’s MVPs! You are an inspiration to the entire network and we appreciate all you do.
Finally, if you do business in Michigan or Southern Arizona and you count on local referral relationships to grow your business, then become a Member and let’s refer business together! 1-2-WIN in 2021!

When Shelter in Place orders closed Michigan businesses, Caerusnet founder, Steve Zyskowski was forced to migrate hundreds of members to an entirely online video-based experience. With precious little time and less experience, Steve was able to refashion the business, and many of the previous limits to the business model have disappeared in the process. Listen in for an enlightening discussion on how that was possible and the roller-coaster ride that happened along the way. The future of local referral networking has arrived. Be sure to like and subscribe to the “So, you’re in sales?” Podcast produced by 2020 MVP Caerusnet Team Member, Roger Burnett with Social Good Promotions.

Happy Holidays Steve,
I wanted to send a quick Hello to you and the entire Canton Caerusnet team. You probably know that I keep in touch with and still use some Members of the group. I have been remiss in not sending this sooner!

You may have heard from Scott Shay that I sold the house I bought a little over two years ago and Dave and I bought a new house together in Canton. We reached out to Scott from Berkshire Hathaway Homes Sales to assist us. This was back at the start of COVID. Dave’s condo was in Wixom. He had been in it a little less than a year and the builder was still building new ones! Scott secured a good offer for a solid price and the deal closed quickly even during the pandemic. It took less than 45 days start to finish! On my prior Canton home, can you say “OMG!” – I had over 60 (heck, it may have been over 70) showings scheduled in the first 3 days and we had 4 offers within 48 hours, including a cash deal, all at asking price or above. We closed in less than 30 days. The best part of all…Scott helped us find our dream home! It is amazing! The location is perfect, the yard is beautiful, it is the perfect size with all the upgrades we were looking for. It was literally the first house he showed us. We looked at several more just to be sure, but we knew this was our home!

We used Todd from Success Mortgage for the loan on our new house. He got us a great rate, worked through our questions, suggested ways to reduce our cost and got us to closing on time! This was my second mortgage with Todd and he has been great each time. It doesn’t sound nearly as fun and exciting as what I wrote about Scott, but hey the financial realm typically isn’t (can you say insurance???). What matters in this arena is simplicity, best interest rates, lowest costs/fees, professionalism and service. Todd and his team encompass all those things.

Steven B from Raymond James … such a great professional and a truly good person! About two years ago I reached out to Steven to assist me with my financial portfolio. When I called him he asked what accounts I had, where they were and how much money was in them. I am usually pretty good with finances and such but after my divorce (there were some moving pieces with the finances even a year or two later) and a move, I had sort of lost track of where the various accounts were and how much was in each. I heard Steven pause and he simply said “This is why you need me. I will keep track of all of it, you won’t have to worry about it.” Then he chuckled and said “but we do need to find it first!” Steven walked me through moving a couple of “old” retirement accounts over to him as well as my daughter’s education accounts. Each year I go in and meet with him and we review how my accounts have performed and where things are at. He has done a great job of investing my money! Even though my current 401K must remain with my employer, Steven still reviews it and gives me suggestions. I highly recommend him and as a matter of fact I do! I really appreciate the fact that he is a young professional. This is a benefit in my mind. No need for me to find someone else in the future because I will (hopefully) retire before him. Plus, if he has secret to help him retire “that” early then he is probably sharing it with me!

The other day I had a client with a unique situation with work comp. Their work comp is handled by their payroll company and I was curious about how Employers Liability and subcontracting exposure would get picked up. I work with some VERY knowledgeable work comp people but in this situation, they weren’t even sure how this would be handled. I reached out to Valerie K. from Paychex and left a message for her. I let her know that while unfortunately I did not have a referral for her I was hoping to pick her brain. She called me back in less than 5 minutes. While my customer is not with Paychex and Valerie couldn’t speak to the specifics, she was willing to spend 15 minutes talking with me and was able to give me a good bit of information about how work comp through Paychex is handled, which lead me and my client in the right direction.
Finally, my shout out to Caerusnet – Congratulations to you and the Canton Group for becoming a Showcase team! Yes, it was a lot of work, but you all got there! Due to my professional change (I still love my new job) it no longer made sense for me to be part of a networking group. However, Caerusnet works! While the goal isn’t always to use each other’s services ourselves but rather to refer to other people, it is clear that I have made professional connections which I continue to use. Stacey from Stacey’s Salon continues to be our families hairstylist and will remain so! Just this morning I referred Megan from Hands of Time Estate Sales to someone in one of my Canton Facebook groups looking for an Estate Sale Company.
My point is the benefits of belonging to the group continue even as people exit the group. The beauty of it is that the ROI continues and the investment for Members is worth it.
Please feel free to share this. I wish all of you the best, stay safe and healthy!
Thank you,
Lori Boyer CWCC
