ReferralTopia2021 – We Planted The Seeds of New Referral Relationships!

Approximately 200 local Michigan small business professionals registered to attend ReferralTopia on Earth Day, April 22, 2021.  The event ran from 9AM-3PM on Zoom and was followed up by an in person mixer at Ginopolis Smokehouse in Brighton, attended by approximately 50 networkers.  ReferralTopia attendance was attended by approximately 50% Caerusnet Members (past, present and future).  The other 50% found out about ReferralTopia due to social sharing.  They worked together to plant the seeds of new referral relationships.

The line-up of live speakers at ReferralTopia was second to none.  Steven Zyskowski, founder of Caerusnet and creator of ReferralTopia, kicked the day off with an inspiring presentation and gave instructions on how to based tackle the full day of networking.   Doug Moffat, owner of The Moffat Group (leadership coaching and defensive insurance specialist, Caerusnet Facilitator in Brighton, Ann Arbor & Detroit), kicked the day off with an amazing presentation about Humble Inquiry.  Later in the early afternoon, best selling author and entrepreneur, Lisa Mininni, presented on Human Wiring.  The final presenter was best selling author, TedX speaker and Forbes contributing columnist,  Stan Phelps.  Stan is well known for his best selling Goldfish series of books and his presentation was about “Lagniappe” – doing the extra, little things that add up to a differentiated experience.  To watch the replays of these presentations, click here:  https://caerusnet.com/referraltopia-2021-live-presenters-replay/

The ReferralTopia planning team: Roger (top left), Minesh (bottom left), Julie Palmer (bottom right) and Steve (upper right).

ReferralTopia took a lot of planning to pull off.  There was no format to follow, so, as usual, Caerusnet blazed a new trail.  This event would not have been possible without the commitment made by the ReferralTopia planning team: Julie Palmer, JemEvents; Roger Burnett, Social Good Promotions, and Minesh Baxi.  Thank you to all who attended and promoted #ReferalTopia2021.  We can’t wait to do it again next year! Save the date for ReferralTopia2022: Thursday, April 21 (Earth Day Eve)!

  • Coach Evan Has A Healthy Referral Mindset In Caerusnet

Coach Evan Has A Healthy Referral Mindset In Caerusnet

As a Member of the Caerusnet Canton team, Evan Raoof is passionate about helping his clients train for the performance of their lives.  He helps his clients
understand how to approach fitness in a way they can successfully adopt into their lives to become a meaningful part of their daily living.  We had a chance to connect with Evan to learn more about him and get his take on the world of referrals!

How did you get into this field?   I have always been into to exercise and truly, exercise saved my life.  I was born with a type of Cerebral Palsy that impacts a portion of the right side of my body (leg and arm).  When attending summer camp at age nine, I didn’t wear my brace for three months.  I was faced with walking the right way or being in a wheelchair.  We all have a story that allows us to be who we are. In adversity comes strength and will to create happiness.

How are you different and/or what’s your niche?  I love the opportunity to help someone get healthy though fitness. My business has transformed me from being simply a personal trainer to also a lifestyle mindset coach. The truth about weight loss and your life is that it is not actually about weight loss sometimes.  It is the relationship with yourself first and to others -family and friends. It’s all connected.  At FitLiving Academy, I help clients achieve much more than health.  I have recently started implementing weight loss and wellness programs into other health related practices and am excited to create such possibilities to impact more people. This helps be broaden the scope of referrals I can create for our clients in all aspects related to fitness, health and wellness.

Evan being interviewed by Jason Tracey, Roar Consulting.

Share a success story about why giving referrals/bringing visitors are beneficial to you.  The mindset of giving will come back to you 10 x!  It took about 8 months to become the “know, like, trust” person and to get a referral from the team – yet that referred client is still paying me monthly. Months later, a Member referred someone who had money saved in a flex spending account without and they invested that with me to start a four-month health program. I value every relationship and take a stand for my clients results Referrals make it easier.

Any tips on learning how to find situations where you can create a referral or invite a visitor?   The power is in the Trust Builder Meetings with Caerusnet Members.
As I connect with people I want to help make introductions for, I invite them to visit Caerusnet, where they can meet 25-30 of my powerful referral partners.

What is your approach to positioning yourself as a resource in the community?  I want to be known as a resource for all things related to fitness, health, and wellness. Caerusnet

is critical in helping get connected to the right people to help me get the word out.

Tips on how to be successful in Caerusnet?  Steve Zyskowski runs a fantastic organization with a lot different teams – each with a unique culture, yet they all speak the same language. Visit each team in your area or territories and expand your network.  Treat it like an interview. Because it is! Build relationships based on wanting to help others and serving your customers by being a great referral source.  Plan on entertaining and educating.  Each Member minute is an opportunity to educate, engage and connect with all Members of the Caerusnet team. Educate your Members in your Member Minute, Spotlight Presentation, and the important Trust Builder Meetings. • David Kelley Speaks Up About The Art of Referrals with Livingston & Commerce Hearing Centers

David Kelley Speaks Up About The Art of Referrals with Livingston & Commerce Hearing Centers

David Kelley has been an outstanding Member of the Caerusnet Brighton Tuesday 8AM team since first joining in May, 2013.  He attends at least 90% of the team meetings, gives referrals and invites visitors.  With every word clearly enunciated, David always delivers fantastic information during his Member Minutes and would certainly be considered one of the heartbeats on the team.  Since David has been in Caerusnet for over seven years, we felt this would be the perfect time to get his perspective on his approach to the world of referrals.  Livingston & Commerce Hearing Centers is what Caerusnet is all about – serving people in the local communities we live in and love and going the extra mile to make a difference.

How long have you been in your profession?  18 Years as of October 3rd,2020. Wow, it is hard to believe that it has been this long ago that we started helping people hear better!

How did you get into this field? With my wife Kimber, being a Dr. Of Audiology, we always knew that eventually we would open a hearing practice to help people with their relationships.

What is the best thing about your business/career?  We love the interactions that we have daily with our patients.  The stories we share and the relationships that we have are the best.  I always find it exciting when we have a new hearing patient, and they realize that this relationship that is just starting between us is probably going to be a great, long lasting one.

How are you different and/or what’s your niche?  We pride ourselves on the ability to be successful with even the very hard to fit hearing losses of our patients. Kimber has a moderate hearing loss, herself.   That puts us in a unique situation as practitioners who know the struggles and understands the frustrations that a hearing deficit can bring.  This allows her to personally know which hearing aids are the best for each patient.

Any tips on learning how to find situations where you can create a referral or invite a visitor? I have had some success with finding new Members interested in referral networking from someone giving me a sales call from their own business.  If I find out that they are local, then I will answer them with the name of my Caerusnet Member who already does that for me. Then I ask if they have ever considered visiting a referral networking group such as Caerusnet.

What is your strategy with your Member minute and your spotlight presentation? I always want to be informative with my Member minute. It needs to have value for most all other Members to give them another reason to refer to your business.  Be clear and concise with asking for specific referral types.

Any tips on how to be successful in Caerusnet? To be successful in this referral network, All you really have to do is pay your $50 a month and the referrals just come flying in…LOL!   No!  You need to have the thought process that this is your team and that the other Members of your team want to help grow your business. As with any team you want to be respectful. Respectful of time, efforts of others and work as hard for them as they do for you.  Always be a giver, someone that is helpful, and your success in Caerusnet will follow shortly behind you.

Share how your Caerusnet Members have positively influenced you or your business besides passing referrals. The ability to help our patients with challenges other than their hearing, really shows them that we care about them as a person and not just as a patient.  That we don’t just see dollar signs with them, but we see the humanity in them. We all need to be helpful whenever possible.

  • It’s all “Good” with this Caerusnet MVP Mortgage Lender

It’s all “Good” with this Caerusnet MVP Mortgage Lender

Cherie Good wants to be known as “Your Good Lender” with Level One Bank.  Beyond that, Cherie wants to be much more to her clients than they may typically expect from a mortgage lender and she does that by being a fantastic referral source.  Giving great referrals allows Cherie to deepen her relationships with her clients.  Being a Caerusnet Member gives her many great opportunities to learn how to create referral opportunities.  She is also one of a small number of Caerusnet Michigan Members who is a participating Member on two different Caerusnet teams. This gives her the opportunity to develop relationships in two different markets, Ann Arbor and Adrian (she was named MVP of her Adrian Caerusnet team in 2019).  And Cherie is a really good giver in general! Not just in Caerusnet passing referrals but also by supporting food pantries and helping feed the hungry.  Enjoy our conversation with this this extremely “Good” Caerusnet Member!

How long have you been in your profession? I’ve been in the mortgage industry since 2016 but started out in financial education back in 2003, which has been a critical influence for me to get into the mortgage industry. I was encouraged by my financial and realtor friends to look into mortgage lending because it seemed to be a natural fit.  They were right!

What is the best thing about your business/career? I get to help provide education and support with the largest purchase likely anyone will make … their home! If you know of an individual that deserves to have strong support with their new home purchase or refinance, I’d be happy to offer this guidance to them. We have a variety of unique programs at Level One that offer additional assistance to our clients such as: low down payment options, lower closing costs, and portfolio programs with no mortgage insurance.

What is it about the Caerusnet model that you like most?   As professional service providers, we are stronger together.  Why not have 20+ advocates out in the community that can look out for opportunities for each other?

Share a success story about why giving referrals/bringing visitors are beneficial to you? I believe in strong partnerships and I love being able to introduce a client to my Caerusnet partners to offer additional support to them. This, in return, helps to build stronger relationships and improved loyalty for all of us. We are all experts in our fields and this is validated when we are able to work collectively to help improve the lives of our clients.

Any tips on learning how to find situations where you can create a referral?  I’m always listening.  Whether that is at a family function or hanging out with friends. I want to genuinely know how things are going for them and if I can help them in any way, including making a strong connection with a Caerusnet partner.

What is your strategy with your member minute and your spotlight presentation?  I try to provide education or mortgage tips that are valuable, especially since many of us currently own a mortgage. Not all of us had an opportunity to understand the “WHY” when we secured our last mortgage and I want people to learn how easy it is to get ahead of their mortgage and to regain control.

What is your approach to positioning yourself as a resource in the community?  I focus on my continued education in the mortgage industry. There are many intricacies and for some it can seem overwhelming. I want to be that trusted resource that can help guide people through a variety of scenarios. Mortgage situations are not all the same and I want individuals to know they can turn to me to get answers, no matter what stage of the mortgage process/cycle they are in.

Tips on how to be successful in Caerusnet?   Passing along a warm referral (email introduction, CCing your Caerusnet partner) is highly effective. It establishes a trusting connection with that potential client.  Get to know your fellow Caerusnet referral partners. Find commonalities and ways in which you can champion each other keeping your eyes and ears open for any possible referral or connection.

If you want to connect with Cherie Good, you can find her on the Caerusnet website Member directory search engine and here’s a link to her website: www.YourGoodLender.com

In addition, here are some of Cherie’s unique ways to provide lending scenarios to specific audiences:

  • Alex Helps Referrals Find Their Perfect Franchising Fit In Caerusnet

Alex Helps Referrals Find Their Perfect Franchising Fit In Caerusnet

Alex Roberts is a franchise consultant—a matchmaker and guide for people looking for an opportunity to be their own boss. Through a proven process, he helps them find franchise opportunities that perfectly suit their professional and personal goals, making career dreams come true.

Why franchising? The world of franchising offers a plethora of benefits and support systems for people in all stages of their professional life: budding entrepreneurs, people looking to pursue a business opportunity while keeping their day job, business professionals in career transition, and those looking to plan for eventual retirement. By beginning with the franchisor’s playbook, a proven business model, the new franchisee has a higher likelihood of success. The franchisor provides extensive training and support, technology to support the business, established marketing and customer acquisition strategies. There’s no need to reinvent the wheel. And new franchisees benefit from a built-in network: fellow franchisees who can share their experiences and tips for success.

What Alex does. Alex’s services are free and come with no strings attached. Through a proven and structured process, he helps people define exactly what they’re looking for, matches them with franchise opportunities that support their goals, and introduces them to the franchisor(s) they’re interested in working with. He completes a lot of the legwork and works only with prescreened, high-quality franchises that offer candidates a high chance of success.

Who to refer. Typical candidates for Alex’s free consulting services are men, women, or couples anywhere in the U.S., usually between 40-55 years of age, who have a strong desire to be their own boss despite having only worked for others throughout their career. Most have about 15-20 years of experience in corporate America and have built up strong leadership and communication skills, people management skills, and solid business acumen, which happen to be great traits for a franchise owner. People in career transition are great referrals. If they have been laid off once or twice and want to take control of their future, if they travel too much for work and want to have a better lifestyle, if they’ve hit the ceiling in their career and have few prospects for advancement, send them his way.

Success stories. Through Caerusnet, Alex has had many successes. Here are two examples.

    • An insurance adjuster who was offered the choice to relocate for the company or take a severance package had opted for the severance package. When mentioning his work situation to a Caerusnet member, the phrase “career transition” prompted her to think of Alex. She made the referral and Alex guided the candidate through his proven process. The former adjuster eventually invested in a restaurant franchise in Wixom. He’s now his own boss and enjoying business ownership.
    • A husband and wife team were looking for a better lifestyle and work/life balance. The husband had taken a buyout from his company, and the wife has recently sold a small business that could not succeed without her full-time participation. A Caerusnet member who worked with the husband made the referral after hearing that he was considering buying a franchise. The couple invested in a boutique fitness franchise they can manage as semi-absentee owners and are continuing to work on other business interests. Boutique fitness is one of the fastest-growing segments in franchising today and they got in on the leading edge with the best franchisor in the industry.

What Alex likes most about Caerusnet.  It is extremely well organized by the facilitator and the members quickly become friends and trusted partners as you get to know them, ideally through a Trust Builder Meeting.

Alex’s approach to positioning himself as a resource.  My approach is always to just be myself. Once I spend time with someone, they see that I am genuine, and I am an expert in my industry. The great thing about my service is that it is FREE to everyone. I never charge a nickel. All they invest with me is their time. So, what have you got to lose?

Strategy for success in Caerusnet.  The best way to be successful with Caerusnet is to do Trust Builder Meetings with everyone in your group. This is the only way you get to really know, like and trust the others – which is a requirement when it comes to passing referrals. I also encourage people to visit other Caerusnet groups as there are many other people out there who “get it” and are willing to help promote you and your business.

The additional benefits of being on a Caerusnet team.  I have developed deep relationships with several of the team members over the past 3 years. We’ve played golf, gone to events, and know what’s going on in each other’s lives. I have utilized the services of many of their businesses and feel extremely comfortable referring them to others which makes me a more valuable resource to my network and clients.

Make the Caerusnet connection. If you know anyone who is in career transition or who has mentioned a desire to be their own boss, send them to Alex. He can help them reach their goal of business ownership and capture their share of the American Dream. Alex can be reached at: [email protected] or 734-369-4551. Check out his website at: www.franchiseplaymaker.com.
